5 Things You Should Know About FG’s 3MTT Programme

·

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy launched an ambitious initiative called the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. This project aims to develop a robust digital workforce across Nigeria, supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of generating 2 million digital jobs by 2025. Through training and job placement, the programme seeks to create a pipeline of skilled talent capable of contributing to Nigeria’s growing digital economy and potentially positioning the country as a hub for tech exports.

The 3MTT programme is an essential part of the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. With the support of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and other key partners, the 3MTT programme will offer training to individuals across Nigeria, equipping them with technical skills and preparing them for roles in various tech fields.

These are things you need to know about this programme:

1. Training 300,000 Nigerians in the First Phases

The 3MTT programme’s initial phases started in December 2023, the first phase selected 30,000 fellows from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These fellows are currently participating in an extensive training journey that includes self-paced online courses and in-person learning sessions. This training has been made possible through partnerships with over 120 organizations across different sectors.

Moving forward, the second phase will train an additional 270,000 individuals in three cohorts: 60,000, 90,000, and 120,000 participants respectively. Together, these phases will prepare 300,000 young Nigerians with the technical expertise required for competitive roles in Nigeria’s tech sector and abroad.

2. 12 Major Skills in Focus for 3MTT Fellows

The programme covers a range of technical skills essential for modern digital work. The focus areas in the first phase include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning
  • Animation
  • Cloud Computing
  • UI/UX Design
  • Data Analysis & Visualization
  • Data Science
  • DevOps
  • Game Development
  • Product Management
  • Quality Assurance
  • Software Development
  • Cybersecurity

These skills were selected to align with current and future demands within the tech industry, enhancing fellows’ employability both within Nigeria and globally.

3. Programme is Available online and in-person

The 3MTT training is structured as a hybrid programme, combining online coursework with in-person learning. While most of the training will be done remotely, some components will require fellows to attend physical sessions to complete their applied learning.

4. It’s free and lasts for 3 months

Each course phase will last approximately three months. Importantly, participation in the 3MTT programme is free, with the cost of training fully covered. However, participants are expected to handle their own expenses for transportation, meals, and other personal costs.

5. Applications Open for Training Providers

The 3MTT programme is also calling on organizations and individuals interested in becoming training providers. These training partners will play a critical role in helping the programme achieve its goal of training 3 million technical talents across Nigeria. Applications from training providers are being reviewed on a rolling basis, and those not selected in the current phase may be considered for future phases.

This initiative by the Federal Government underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering a robust digital workforce capable of advancing the nation’s position in the global tech landscape.
