You have probably heard of Shell as one of the influential companies in Nigeria. Another thing you should now know is that they are a very philanthropical company, i.e., they are always willing to put in the money where it can benefit individuals and society at large. One of the ways Shell is impacting Nigeria is through scholarships. It’s 2024, and we still have Shell Scholarship for Nigeria university students.
Now, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited Joint Venture (SPDC JV) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) have spent roughly $5.9 million (N1.78 billion) on scholarships for Nigerians. So, you do not want to miss this opportunity, at least not this year.

University scholarship initiative
We also have the University Scholarship Initiative by Shell in Nigeria for Nigerian students. This scholarship is managed by SPDC for the NNPC/Shell/Elf/Agip Joint Venture
Every year, more than 4,000 students in Nigeria who are in university take tests to see if they can get this scholarship. Shell Nigeria picks students based on their SSCE and JAMB scores and then they take aptitude tests in cities like Port Harcourt, Warri, Enugu, Lagos, and Abuja.
This Shell Scholarship for Nigeria university students Initiative has two parts:
- The National Merit Award (NM) for all Nigerian undergraduates.
- The Areas of Operation Merit Award (AOM) for students from places where Shell Nigeria works.
Both of these are just for Nigerian students who are in their first year at Nigerian universities.
Every year, about 16,000 people apply after seeing Shell Nigeria’s ads. They ask for students who can apply for the Shell scholarship, which is only for students at Nigerian universities.
We have seen situations where students have mistakenly missed out on the scholarship despite being selected. This is usually as a result of not checking your email. Use your primary email for the registration, and check it very often. You can check your email once a day or at least 3 to 4 times a week. Over here, we monitor our emails multiple times daily due to engagements, and things we need to look out for.
Conclusion
So, that’s really all you need to know about this scholarship in 2024. Currently, some people are pretending to be part of Shell and claiming they can help get you a Shell scholarship. They act like they can make it happen because they know how to work the system. Shell hasn’t given anyone the job of being a go-between or agent for their scholarships. Also, you don’t have to pay anything to apply for a Shell scholarship for Nigerian university students – it’s 100% free. You can find out about Shell scholarships and how to apply in national newspapers, on Shell’s website, and their Twitter page at twitter.com/Shell.
