Akwa Ibom State Announces Increased Bursaries for Students

During the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo on November 9, 2024, Governor Umo Eno made a significant appearance, not only as a dignitary but as one of the graduands. The Governor received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science, with a focus on Public Administration, marking a personal achievement that reflects his dedication to education.

In his speech, Governor Eno highlighted the transformative power of education. He emphasised that his journey and success were made possible through learning, which is why his administration prioritises education across Akwa Ibom State. He noted the government’s continued commitment to free and compulsory education in the state, ensuring access for all.

The Governor announced an increase in bursaries, with students in general courses receiving 20,000 naira, while those in professional fields such as law, engineering, and medicine now receive 30,000 naira. Additionally, the administration provides substantial support for students with disabilities, offering up to 300,000 naira for those in professional courses, funded by a 100 million naira educational grant.

Governor Eno also mentioned efforts to construct world-class model primary schools, stressing the importance of a solid educational foundation from an early age. His vision reflects a commitment to long-term academic growth and opportunity for all Akwa Ibom students.
