The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a sub-regional organisation that conducts various examinations in English-speaking West African countries, has announced its 2024 recruitment exercise. Interested and qualified candidates are invited to apply online for numerous vacant positions in the Nigeria National Office and the WAEC International Office located in Lagos, Nigeria.

WAEC Recruitment 2024

WAEC is seeking to fill positions such as Assistant Registrar II (Test Development), Aptitude Tests Development Officer II, Accountant II, Medical Officer, Network Administrator/Computer Hardware Maintenance Engineer II, Application Programmer II, Database/System Administrator II, Data Analyst/Programmer II, Research Officer II, Human Resource Management Officer II, Senior Public Affairs Officer, and Internal Auditor II.

Applicants may specialise in various fields, including but not limited to Islamic Studies, Christian Religious Studies, Music, Visual Arts, Geography, Commerce, Civic Education, French, English Language, and technical subjects like Auto Mechanics, Welding & Engineering Craft Practice, and General Mathematics/Further Mathematics.

WAEC Recruitment Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must possess five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in a single sitting or six credits, including these subjects, in not more than two sittings in SSCE/WASSCE. They should hold an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), National Certificate of Education (NCE), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Bachelor of Arts/Science (B.A/B.Sc.) degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division. A Master’s Degree in Measurement and Evaluation is an added advantage.

Additionally, a minimum of three years’ post-NYSC teaching experience is required. Specific professional qualifications, such as ICAN or ACCA certification for accounting roles, MDCN registration for medical officers, or CIPM certification for HR roles, are mandatory for certain positions.

As for skills and attributes, applicants should demonstrate:

  • Expertise in test development and item writing.
  • High integrity, reliability, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to write and review reports.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to work extra hours and lead organisational change.
