Federal Government Scholarship Awards 2025/2026

The Federal Ministry of Education, through the Federal Scholarship Board located at Plot 245 Samuel Ademulegun Street, Central Business District, Abuja, has announced the 2025/2026 Federal Government Scholarship Award. This initiative is aimed at promoting education and fostering international cooperation.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, invites qualified Nigerians to apply for the scholarship opportunities available under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA).

Federal Scholarship Awards Available Scholarship Categories

The scholarships are open to:

Undergraduate (UG) Studies

These scholarships are tenable in Russia, Morocco, Hungary, Egypt, and Algeria.

Postgraduate (PG) Studies

Scholarships for postgraduate studies are available in the following countries:

  • Russia (for those who obtained their first degrees from Russian institutions),
  • China,
  • Hungary,
  • Serbia,
  • Romania.

Application Process

Applicants are advised to follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Federal Ministry of Education’s website: www.education.gov.ng.
  2. Click on the “Federal Scholarship Board” icon on the homepage.
  3. Read the guidelines carefully.
  4. Complete the online application form.
  5. Print out the completed application form for reference.

Undergraduate Level

Available fields include:

  • Engineering
  • Geology
  • Agriculture
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Sports
  • Law
  • Social Sciences
  • Biotechnology
  • Architecture
  • Medicine (limited slots)
  • Pilot Engineering
  • Neurology

Postgraduate Level

Postgraduate scholarships cover Master’s and PhD programmes in all fields of study.

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Applicants must have a minimum of seven (7) distinctions (A’s and B’s) in WASSCE/WAEC (May/June) relevant to their chosen field, including English and Mathematics.
  • Certificates must not be older than two years for non-African countries (2023 and 2024) and one year for African countries (2024).
  • Applicants must be aged between 17 and 20 years.

Postgraduate Scholarships

  • Applicants must hold a First Degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division.
  • They must have completed the NYSC programme.
  • Age limits are 35 years for Master’s and 40 years for PhD programmes.
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificates are mandatory.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of readiness for release from their employer.

Notes for All Applicants

  1. BEA scholarships require a mandatory one-year foreign language course in the host country, as instruction will be in that language.
  2. Applicants for Hungarian scholarships can select up to two fields of study in order of preference. They must complete their applications on www.stipendiumhungaricum.hu by 15th January 2025.
  3. Applicants for Russian scholarships must visit http://education-in-russia.com and ensure all documents are uploaded in PDF format.
  4. Russian postgraduate applicants must have obtained their first degree in Russia.
  5. All prospective candidates for Russia must possess an international passport and original WAEC certificate. Candidates with the 2024 WAEC result should download a digital copy from the WAEC portal.
  6. Required documents for upload include:
  • Undergraduate: WAEC/WASSCE certificate and NIN slip.
  • Postgraduate: First degree certificate, NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and NIN slip.

Additional Requirements

Candidates nominated by the Federal Scholarship Board will need to submit the following:

  1. Authenticated copies of academic certificates.
  2. Data page of a current international passport.
  3. Specified medical reports from government hospitals.
  4. Birth certificate and letter of indigene.
  5. Police clearance certificate where applicable.

Application Timeline

The application portal opens on 2nd December 2024 and closes on 12th January 2025.

Fraud Prevention

Applicants are reminded that this application process is free of charge. The Federal Ministry of Education warns against fraudsters who may attempt to exploit unsuspecting applicants.
