President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the recruitment of 5,000 new staff into the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for the years 2025 and 2026. This recruitment exercise is being handled by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

The Nigerian Correctional Service is an important part of the country’s criminal justice system. It is under the control of the Ministry of Interior. It is important to note that the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal agency. This means there are no state correctional services in Nigeria. All custodial centers in the country are federal facilities. The Ministry of Interior oversees the operations of the service.
Nigerian Correctional Service Recruitment Requirements
To be eligible for this recruitment, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old.
- A minimum of a GCE Ordinary Level (SSCE/NECO) or its equivalent with at least five credits in not more than two sittings. The credits must include English and Mathematics.
- For some positions, a higher qualification like ND, HND, or a degree is required.
- Male applicant must be at least 1.68 meters tall (5 feet 6 inches), while female applicant must be at least 1.65 meters tall (5 feet 5 inches).
- Applicant must be physically and mentally fit.
- Applicants must be of good character and must not have any criminal record.
