As the name implies, it’s strictly for students in science and tech. Don’t apply for this scholarship if you do not meet the eligibility requirements.

We have seen a lot of students apply for scholarships they don’t qualify for, hoping they’ll be magically selected. It doesn’t work like that. We see a lot of applicants each year, and try to filter out the least favorite to the most eligible candidates. So, if your profile doesn’t fit the description, it’ll automatically be disqualified.

They also get chances for extra training and certifications like PMI (Project Management Institute). As part of the Alumni chat group, they receive updates about job openings and career information.

The only disadvantage about thi scholarship opportunity is that you can’t apply for it if you already have a scholarship in your name. And maybe the fact that it’s not for students on Arts abd social science.

This isn’t a fully funded scholarship. The money isn’t also big but really worth it. You can’t apply if you already have a scholarship with another program.

CGPA Requirements

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) sets specific academic requirements for STEM students across various educational institutions. For STEM students in public universities and colleges of education, a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5, equivalent to second class upper credit, is mandatory.

Similarly, STEM students in public polytechnics must have at least a 3.0 CGPA (upper credit) from their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and should have gained admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) program.

For, Direct Entry level STEM students, you are required to have a minimum of 3.0 CGPA (upper credit) from the OND program and must have been admitted into the 300 level/3rd year of a public university.

The GPA requirement is good. If you are a competent student, you should easily make 3.0 out 4.0 or 3.5 out 5, depending on the grading scale your school currently uses.

This scholarship is not for students in private universities. Don’t bother applying as the name of your school will automatically disqualify your application.

Is this even worth it?

We have helped many students apply for this scholarship. Even if you are not eligible, if you know someone in 100 level, you can have them prepare early so they stand a chance to get this scholarship later in their 3rd level. It’s a competitive scholarship that takes GPAs seriously.

And yes, MTN’s science and tech scholarship is well worth it. Don’t only read to increase your GPA but also get involved in practical internships where you can improve both your skills and knowledge. And obviously, it’s for your own good to have a high GPA.

Conclusion

The MTN Science and Technology scholarship scheme is for 300 level students in Science and Technology-related courses at Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). The application is free, and the deadline is usually announced on the MTN Foundation website.

You can’t apply if you are in 100 or 200 level. However, while in these lower levels, do your best to accumulate a high GPA and prepare to apply for this scholarship once you move to level 300. 100 level students even have an advantage because there’s a lot more time to study harder, and pick up as much CGPAs as necessary per semester.
