The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has opened applications for its Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. This initiative aims to enhance human resource development in the Niger Delta region by equipping young professionals with specialized skills and training. The programme is designed to help them participate effectively in the Federal Government’s local content programme and compete globally in various professional fields.

The scholarship is available to suitably qualified candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree in the following disciplines:

  1. Agricultural Science
  2. Engineering
  3. Environmental Science
  4. Geosciences
  5. Information Technology
  6. Medical Sciences
  7. Law
  8. Architecture

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Must be from the Niger Delta region.
  • Must have obtained a First Class, Second Class Upper, or Lower Division Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must not be more than 40 years old.

How to Apply

Interested and qualified candidates should apply online through the NDDC website: www.nddc.gov.ng. During the application process, candidates must upload the following required documents:

  1. A recent passport photograph.
  2. Local Government Identification Letter.
  3. Postgraduate admission letter from a recognized overseas university.
  4. Degree certificates from a recognized university.
  5. NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate.

Once the application is successfully submitted, the system will generate a registration number. Applicants should print and keep a copy of the online acknowledgment slip for future reference.

Selection Process

The selection process involves multiple stages to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are chosen for the scholarship. The stages are as follows:

  1. Online Application – All interested candidates must fill out and submit the online application form via the NDDC website.
  2. Preliminary Shortlisting – Candidates will be shortlisted based on:
    • WASSCE/NECO results.
    • Undergraduate degree classification (First Class, Second Class Upper, or Lower).
    • Local Government Identification.
  3. Computer-Based Test (CBT) – Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a computer-based test in Rivers State. The test will be conducted by an independent consultant.
  4. Minimum Test Score Requirement – Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70% in the CBT to qualify for further consideration.
  5. Further Shortlisting – Candidates who pass the test will undergo further screening.
  6. Final Verification – The final stage will involve verifying candidates through their Local Government Area (LGA) and Community Development Committee (CDC).

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship amount will be determined based on the prevailing exchange rate of the Naira at the time of disbursement. The award will cover tuition, accommodation, and other necessary expenses associated with studying abroad.

NDDC Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship 2025 Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted on or before April 21, 2025. This deadline is exactly four weeks from the date of the first publication of this advert on March 24, 2025. Late applications will not be considered.

Interested candidates should take notes that:

  • The NDDC will not communicate with candidates who are not shortlisted for the computer-based test.
  • Only those who meet the cut-off mark will be invited for the next stage of the selection process.
  • Preference will be given to applicants from oil-producing host communities and local government areas who meet the cut-off mark.
  • A fair distribution of scholarship slots will be ensured across all eligible states in the Niger Delta region.
  • Successful candidates are not allowed to defer the scholarship, change their institution, or switch to another course after selection.
  • The Commission holds the exclusive right to determine the selection of candidates, and all decisions made by the NDDC will be final.
