Many people from Nigeria often ask if their NECO can be used to get into universities in Canada. This article is a new version of the complete list of universities in Canada that accept NECO. In this post, I’m going to give you an updated list of all the universities in Canada that accept NECO. If you are looking for information about schools in Canada that accept NECO, this post will help you learn about the various schools in different provinces of Canada.

Universities in Canada That Accept NECO Results

A. Atlantic Canada

We are going to start with Atlantic Canada. Atlantic Canada includes four provinces: Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there’s the Memorial University of Newfoundland. This province has more universities, but we’re focusing on those that accept NECO.

So, the Memorial University of Newfoundland is the one in this province that takes NECO. Unfortunately, you can’t combine both results as you can normally do at some universities in Nigeria. It’s either your NECO or your WASSCE.

2. University of New Brunswick

Next, in New Brunswick, the University of New Brunswick recognizes NECO.

3. Mount Allison University

Also in New Brunswick, Mount Allison University accepts NECO. Make sure that in your application you Apply as a post secondary student. Your CGPA should be up to 2.0 in a 4.0 grading scale.

4. Dalhousie University

Then, in Nova Scotia, there’s Dalhousie University in Halifax. This university also accepts NECO.

These are the universities in Atlantic Canada that take NECO. However, I didn’t find any university in Prince Edward Island that accepts NECO.

Remember that all schools in Canada accept WAEC. That’s why I’m not discussing schools in Canada that accept WAEC. Every school in Canada takes WAEC, but NECO, being strictly a Nigerian senior secondary school exam, is not yet widely accepted by Canadian schools. However, we hope that soon they will start accepting NECO, as it’s similar to WAEC but conducted by a different organization.

B. Pacific Canada

Now, let’s talk about the schools in Pacific Canada that accept NECO. Pacific Canada has only one province, which is British Columbia. In British Columbia, there are many universities, but I’ll tell you about the ones that accept NECO.

5. British Columbia Institute of Technology

The first university in British Columbia that accepted NECO is the British Columbia Institute of Technology. This institution takes NECO.

6. University of Northern British Columbia

Another school in British Columbia that accepts NECO is the University of Northern British Columbia. This university in the province of British Columbia also accepts NECO.

You need at least a D in English for your Neco, then 3 other subjects and one elective. That will be 5 subjects in total.

7. University of the Fraser Valley

The next university is the University of the Fraser Valley. The University of the Fraser Valley, often referred to as UFV, in British Columbia, also accepts NECO. You’ll have to provide your Neco scratch card or PIN for the university to use in verifying your application.

8. Kwantlen Polytechnic University

The next school in this province of British Columbia that takes NECO is Kwantlen Polytechnic University. This university also recognizes NECO. That covers all the universities in the British Columbia Province known to accept NECO.

C. Prairie Provinces

Moving on to the Prairie Provinces for universities in Canada that accept NECO, an area comprising three provinces: Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

9. Canadian Mennonite University

Starting with Manitoba, there’s the Canadian Mennonite University, which accepts NECO. It’s the only school I found in the province of Manitoba that does.

Then, looking at Saskatchewan, as of the time of this research, I didn’t find any schools in the province of Saskatchewan that accept NECO.

D. Province of Alberta

Now, let’s turn our attention to the province of Alberta. In Alberta, I discovered several schools that accept NECO.

10. University of Calgary

The first one is the University of Calgary, which recognizes NECO. NECO is seen as your SSCE.

11. University of Lethbridge

The second is the University of Lethbridge; they also accept NECO.

12. Mount Royal University

The third one is Mount Royal University, which again accepts NECO.

13. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology

Following that is the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

14. Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

And lastly, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology accepts NECO. So, there are about five schools in Alberta that accept NECO. That wraps up the Prairie Provinces.

E. Central Canada

Next, we’ll focus on Central Canada, which includes two provinces: Quebec and Ontario. Starting with Ontario, let’s explore the schools there that accept NECO.

15. York University

16. Brock University

17. Wilfrid Laurier University

Another one in Ontario is Wilfrid Laurier University, which recognizes NECO.

18. Algoma University

And the final school, but certainly not the least in Ontario, that accepts NECO is Algoma University. Algoma University is one of the universities in Canada that accept NECO.

There are many that won’t accept NECO but these ones accept it 100%. If you consider any university outside this list, then you have to carefully inspect the admission requirements, and make sure NECO is listed. Otherwise, what you’ll need for the application is WAEC. You don’t want to pay a non-refundable application fee of about 80 to 150 dollars only to find out that NECO isn’t accepted. Since application fees are non-refundable, this would be a loss.

An example of a Canadian University that doesn’t accept NECO is Brandon. So, make sure the institution of your choice lists it in their admission requirements.
